It doesn’t take long to get the hang of this game, though you do need to understand how roulette works and what it’s all about before you start placing bets and spinning the wheel.

To help you get started, here’s everything you need to know about live roulette — what it is, how to play it, and why you should make it part of your online gambling repertoire today.

What Is Live Roulette?

What Is Live Roulette?

Live roulette is a game you play with a real dealer, where you can make bets just like in a real casino. Using webcams, you get to see everything that's happening on the table and have the opportunity to place your bets on that live table.

One of its main features is the opportunity to chat with other players at your table. For specific game titles, there are special chat rooms reserved just for players that you can use to talk and discuss the game.

Live Roulette vs Online Roulette

Live Roulette vs Online Roulette

There are a few differences between live and online roulette, but some players report preferring one over another.

Online roulette is simply a video roulette version, which is played online. There are no dealers and no other players.

On the other hand...

Live roulette delivers a more immersive view, thanks to live cameras that will show you a real dealer who is there to help your experience go smoothly. They answer questions if needed and keep things moving so no one falls behind. For many players, that’s a BIG plus.

Bottom line?

The main difference between live roulette and online roulette is that in live roulette, you get to see a real croupier spinning the roulette wheel in real time. This adds an element of excitement to your game and makes you feel like you’re right there in the casino.

Live Roulette Game Types

There are three types of roulette games: American, European, and French. These three types differ in the layout of the table. Different people prefer different layouts, but the good news is that ICE36 offers all of these live roulette game types so you're free to choose the variant that you like.

Live European Roulette

Live European Roulette

European roulette is a fast-paced game played around a roulette wheel. The European variant is played using 37 numbered slots including a single zero. The dealer spins a ball around inside a spinning wheel, then it drops into one of 37 compartments on its way back down.

Live French Roulette

Live French Roulette

French roulette shares many similarities with European roulette. This includes a single 0 slot and the same betting options. The layout of a European roulette table is very similar to that of a French roulette one, but the distributions of bets are placed in different places.

Live American Roulette

Live American Roulette

American roulette is very much the same as European roulette. The main differences are that American roulette has one more green pocket than European roulette, and that there’s a 00 as well as a 0 on the wheel.

How to Play Live Roulette?

How to Play Live Roulette?

The rules of live roulette are simple:

  1. place your bets on which numbers you think will come up. Take note of the minimum bet that is allowed by the game you are playing. This could range anywhere from $0.10 to $2.00.
  2. The dealer will then acknowledge your bets and place the chips on the table.
  3. The dealer will then spin the wheel and announce the winning number which the ball has landed on.
  4. If the ball has landed on one of the numbers you have placed your bets on, you win and will receive a payout. If not, you lose and your chips are taken.

Easy, right?

Roulette Bet Types

While live roulette is in essence a straightforward game, there are dozens of different bet types. It’s important to familiarise yourself with them before playing.

Let’s get started.

On one side of your table you’ll find a board full of numbers, each corresponding to a specific number on the roulette wheel. These bets cover everything from red or black (colour) and odd or even (numbers) to high or low (position). You can bet on any of these or a combination thereof.

Outside Bets

Outside bets are made on the surrounding areas of the roulette table, typically as opposed to a specific number. By opting for this type of wager, you can bet on large groups of numbers or colours instead.

Red/Black

This is a bet that is pretty straightforward. You're betting on which colour will come up, red or black. And it’s easy to distinguish them because the numbers are labelled as "red" or "black" on the table.

Odd/Even

As the name suggests, odd/even roulette has the odds set for even and odd numbers respectively. The table will have corresponding symbols marking each number as even or odd.

High/Low

With this bet type, you’re betting on whether the ball will land on the low group (1-18) or high group (19-36).

Columns

This is a bet on the outcome being one of 12 numbers that lie across a particular row or column. The payout for each column is 2:1, which doubles your bet.

Column 1: 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34
Column 2: 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 23, 26, 29, 32, 35
Column 3: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36

Dozens

This bet covers a dozen numbers in order and also pays 2:1.

1st 12: Numbers 1 to 12
2nd 12: Numbers 13 to 24
3rd 12: Numbers 25 to 36

Inside Bets

Inside bets refers to betting on individual numbers or groups of numbers that land on a roulette wheel. The most popular inside bet is red/black—when you place money on either red or black, depending on whether you think that specific number will come up.

Straight Up

Straight Up is a gamble on any number. If the ball lands on the number you chose, you win 35 times what you bet. If not, you lose. All straight bets pay 35:1.

Split

The opposite of a straight bet is a split bet. You place a bet on the line that separates two numbers, as opposed to betting on one number. For example, 1|2, 13|14, 25|26, or 27|30. If the ball lands on one of the numbers, you’ll get a payout of 17:1. Just make sure that those two numbers are next to each other or it won't work!

Street

A roulette bet on any number within a row of three numbers, for example 1,2,3/4,5,6/7,8,9 and so on. You’ll get paid 11:1 if the ball lands on that number in your trio.

Corner

The corner roulette bet (different from a split bet) is similar to betting on two numbers. But in this case, you're betting that one of four specific numbers will come up and those numbers need to touch each other in order to form a square.

Line

A line bet is similar to a street bet because instead of betting on one row, you'll be betting on two rows with three numbers. The payout is 5:1.

Five-Number Bet

This type of bet is only on the numbers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3 (so five numbers) with a house edge of 6:1 and 13.16% probability of winning. Take note that this bet can only be placed in American roulette.

Snake Bet

A unique roulette bet that includes the numbers 1, 5, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19, 23, 27, 30, 32, and 34.

Trivia: This popular roulette strategy gets its name from the pattern it creates when you mark these numbers as bets.

Call Bets

With these types of bets, placing money is not really required and the only thing you need to do is to announce your wager. The dealer will then mark the bets.

Voisins du Zero

It’s French for "neighbours of zero". This wager covers the 17 numbers closest to the 0 on a single-0 roulette wheel, including 22 and 25:

22, 18, 29, 7, 28, 12, 35, 3, 26, 0, 32, 15, 19, 4, 21, 2, and 25

Jeu Zero

Translated as "zero game", you’re betting on the following numbers that are closest to zero: 12, 35, 3, 26, 0, 32, and 15.

Tiers du Cylindre

This means "thirds of the wheel". These are the 12 numbers on the opposite side of the wheel between and including 27 and 33:

27, 13, 36, 11, 30, 8, 23, 10, 5, 24, 16, and 33

Orphelins

Via this bet, you’re wagering on the eight numbers on the two slices of the wheel that are not covered by the Tiers and Voisins:

17, 34, 6, 1, 20, 14, 31, and 9

Neighbours

With this bet, you choose a single number and the two numbers on both sides are included so you have a total of five numbers.
